How blood tests work at this practice

Blood tests at Harley Street are ordered by Dr Natasha as part of your consultation. The clinic has an in-house nursing team who carry out the blood draw on the same day as your appointment — you do not need to make a separate appointment, visit a phlebotomy centre, or return on another day. Once the request has been placed, the nurse will see you immediately after your consultation and the samples are processed the same day.

All blood tests are ordered within the context of a clinical consultation. This means the tests Dr Natasha requests are specifically chosen based on your history, your symptoms, and what she is looking for — not simply a standard panel applied without thought. The clinical context makes a significant difference to how results are interpreted.

Turnaround times

Results are typically available within 24 to 48 hours of the blood draw, and many routine tests are available the same day. Dr Natasha reviews every result personally — she does not delegate result review to a secretary or leave results unactioned in an online portal. She will contact you directly with a clear, plain-English explanation of what your results mean and what, if anything, should happen next. If a result is time-sensitive or requires urgent attention, she will contact you the same day it is received.

What can be tested

The clinic can arrange a comprehensive range of blood tests to cover virtually any clinical need. Commonly requested tests include: full blood count (FBC); kidney function (U&Es and creatinine); liver function (LFTs); thyroid function (TSH and free T4); blood glucose and HbA1c (for diabetes assessment and monitoring); fasting lipid profile (total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides); iron studies (serum iron, ferritin, TIBC); vitamin B12 and folate; vitamin D; and PSA (prostate-specific antigen) for male patients.

Hormone panels are also commonly arranged, including FSH, LH, oestradiol, testosterone, AMH (anti-Müllerian hormone), prolactin, and progesterone — relevant for fertility assessments, menopause, and hormonal concerns. Tumour markers including CA125, CEA, and AFP can be arranged where clinically indicated. Inflammatory markers (CRP and ESR), coeliac screen (tissue transglutaminase antibodies), and STI blood tests (HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B and C) are all available. If there is a specific test you are looking for that is not listed here, please ask — the laboratory the practice uses is able to process a very wide range of specialist tests.

Scanning and other investigations

In addition to blood tests, a resting ECG (electrocardiogram) can be arranged on the same day as your appointment to assess heart rhythm and screen for cardiac abnormalities. Ultrasound, MRI, CT, and X-ray imaging are available through the clinic facilities at Harley Street — typically on the same day or within a few days of your appointment. Dr Natasha will arrange any imaging she considers clinically appropriate and will review the results with you directly.

Standalone blood test appointments

If you already have a clear idea of what you would like tested and simply need the results reviewed and explained by a GP, this can be arranged as a 30-minute appointment at £195. This is appropriate for patients who have had previous blood tests elsewhere and want an independent clinical review, or who want a specific panel arranged quickly without a full new-patient consultation. Please note that a GP review is always included — blood test results without clinical context and explanation are, in Dr Natasha's view, of limited value.
