Natasha Thandrayen - Private GP


Having been a doctor for 19 years, she understands the importance of putting patients needs first. She believes in empowering patients to take control of their healthcare, and consults with patients from all backgrounds. She takes care to explain everything in great detail, so that patients can be fully informed in their decision making.

Patients are welcome to register with the practice, or to book a one-off consultation for an opinion, depending on their needs.

Dr Thandrayen refers to leading Specialists who are highly regarded and renowned in their field. She is however, always happy to refer to a patient’s preferred Specialist, if they already have one in mind. Referrals are done swiftly, in order to avoid any delay.

If you need a investigations such as a blood tests, swabs or heart monitoring (ECG) her team of friendly nurses will be on hand to do this.

Blood tests are processed rapidly, and the results which are fast-tracked are usually available the next day, and often the same day.

Scanning will be performed the same day where possible, and Doctor Thandrayen will discuss any reports and their significance in detail with you.

Her aim is for patients to feel that they have had a holistic and complete overview of their healthcare, and to really feel listened to.

She qualified from Royal Free & University College London Medical School, achieving a Merit in Paediatrics, and a prize in Paediatrics / Public Health for a presentation on diarrhoea in African children.

Whilst at Medical School, she was awarded a bursary to conduct research during her Medical Elective in Mauritius. This was to ascertain whether Mauritius was set up nationally to deal with polio and whether they had implemented the protective measures set up by the WHO.

After qualifying as a Doctor, she did additional hospital training in Microbiology, Emergency Medicine, ENT, Gastroentrology, Renal Medicine, Care of the Elderly, Urology, and Paediatrics, working in London and the surrounding areas.

Her General Practice training was undertaken in Kingston Upon Thames, Richmond, and then Durham. This included Public health work at the Kingston Primary Care Trust, where she carried out a Health Care Needs Assessment of homeless people in the borough of Kingston. Her findings were presented nationally at the UK Public Health Association Annual forum, and also at a National RCGP conference.

She completed the DFSRH (Diploma of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health) in 2010 which encompasses Contraception and Sexual Health.

In 2014 she was awarded Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners, and has since undergone additional training in the field of Psychosexual Medicine, which encompasses Sexual Dysfunction.

Recently she has undertaken specialist training in Insomnia and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBTi) at Oxford University. She is also a member of the British Sleep Society.

Prior to formal medical training, Dr Thandrayen completed a B.Sc (hons) in Biochemistry - also at University College London, and conducted research into CJD (Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease), otherwise known as 'Mad Cow Disease'. The outcome of this work has been published in several medical research papers.

Being passionate about GP education, one of her roles was previously Co-ordinator of the well established HSDLG (Highgate Self Directed Learning Group). This involved arranging monthly educational sessions and seminars for General Practitioners based in London, delivered by distinguished Hospital Consultants in a broad range of specialties.

Dr Thandrayen does voluntary work for a UK medical charity www.virtualdoctors.org which helps to save lives in rural Zambia in over 150 health facilities in impoverished areas. These facilities serve as many as 2.5 million people with no direct access to a qualified doctor. Volunteer Doctors working for this organisation offer advice to Zambian Healthcare workers to diagnose conditions, treat patients and prescribe medicine, and to save lives.

Her interests include attending the ballet when she can - her favourite is the Royal Opera House production of Mayerling, although The Nutcracker is a close second!
